This is a weird one. Maybe that’s the best way for me to describe my feelings towards this film. The only Men In Black movie I had seen was the third one for some reason and it wasn’t that memorable. So after that, I simply decided to never go back and to watch the others.
But it was time, and no it had nothing to do with the fact that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are going to start in a reboot of this –, okay it might have been a little bit (or a lot) about that… And so, I sat down, opened Amazon Prime and watched for the first time Men In Black.
I don’t know if it was my mood or just the movie but man did I feel like it was never-ending. It drags on for what seems to be forever… Yet, looking at the running time, it’s under two hours. It’s not a bad movie, it still holds up today. But somehow, I just got so bored with it.
Maybe it’s because we are so used to fast pace action films now and this is more of a slow burn action film. The fact remains that an hour into the movie and almost nothing other than set up has happened. It’s only in the last half hour that everything happens so quickly, too quickly even.
Men In Black isn’t bad. I enjoyed most of the film, I enjoyed the dynamic between Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, the action is still passable today and I think it deserves all the love it got upon released and still get today but maybe it was just not for me.
What does that mean? I think it just means that it won’t stay in my memory for a very long time and I will simply remember it as an okay film that I enjoyed but didn’t love as much as I hoped I would.
